Hello and Welcome to my website!

My Name is Kaya Celeste Smith I am a New York based actor, martial artist, and musician originally from Boulder, Colorado. In May 2020 I am graduating from Hofstra University with a B.F.A in Theatre Arts with a Performance concentration.

When I was about eight years old my mom talked me into doing my first play and ever since then acting is all I've really wanted to do. At every summer camp talent show, or even a regular day at home, I would force anyone nearby  to watch skits that I put together with my friends and siblings (usually based on fairytales). We would write, direct, and costume for ourselves, someone probably has some very embarrassing videos in their home movie collection.

 

In college I was given the opportunity to experience a huge range of theatre from the classic works of ancient Greece, Shakespeare and Chekov to Realism, Immersive theatre and Panic Theatre and I've found that I enjoy working in a variety of different styles. 

 

 I also practice stage combat and am interested in stunt performing and movement focused theatre which combine my loves of martial arts, dance and acting. I started playing the violin when I was four years old and music is still very important to me and has been integrated into many of the projects I've worked on. 

 

Growing up in the mountains in Colorado I developed a love of  all things outdoors, particularly the mountains; The only thing I love more than hiking the rockies and watching terrible movies is performing!

I also have technical theatre experience in building sets, costumes and props. I am comfortable both hand and machine stitching as well as using power tools.

In the summer of 2021 I started working as a COVID Compliance Officer for live events as a way to stay in the industry that I love and help provide a way to safely return to live performances.
